A Study on the Eruption Timing of Permanent Teeth

Abstract
A cross-sectional sample of children¢¥s dentition was examined between 1981 and 1982 to study the timing and sequence of eruption of permanent teeth excluding the third molar. Healthy 3,037 boys and 2,844 girls from Chonnam Province were carefully examined for this purpose. Statistical parameters were calculated by computer from the data.
The results were as follows;
1. The average timing of the eruption of permanent teeth was 0.55 years earlier in female than male.
2. There were no significant differences on the average timing of every tooth eruption between right and left sides in boys and girls.
3. The average timings of eruption of permanent teeth were as follows;
a. lower central incisor 6.17¡¾0:25 years.
b. lower lateral incisor 7.42¡¾0.20 years.
c. lower canine 10.04¡¾0.13 years.
d. lower first premolar 10.54¡¾0.28 years. e. lower second premolar 11.54¡¾0.28 years.
f. lower first molar 6.04¡¾0.13 years.
g. lower second molar 11.67¡¾0.20 years.
h. upper central incisor 7.42¡¾0.00 years.
i. upper lateral incisor 8.29¡¾0.13 years.
j. upper canine 10.92¡¾0.20 years.
k. upI. upper second premolar 11.67.¡¾0.20 years.per first premolar 10.54¡¾0.28 years.
4. The average eruption timing of permanent teeth on the lower arches was 0.55 years earlier than that on the upper ones, but the upper second bicuspids were somewhat earlier than lower second bicuspids in boys.
5. It was shown that the sequence of each tooth by average timing of eruption had been the lower and upper first molar-lower central incisor-lower lateral incisor, upper central incisor-upper lateral incisor-lower canine-lower first premolar, upper first premolar-upper canine-lower second premolar-lower second molar, upper second premolar-upper second molar.
